Based out of Austin, Beth Lee grew up on the grit and soul of the Houston music scene, the daughter of a longtime Bayou City musician. Since recording her first album in 2008, she’s carved out an evolving sound that blends alternative edge with roots rock ’n’ roll heart.
Her acclaimed album Waiting on You Tonight, produced by Chuck Prophet & the Mission Express drummer Vicente Rodriguez, draws from a wide range of influences — from the ethereal vocals of Hope Sandoval to the pop melodies of sixties girl groups and the southern soul of Stax Records. The record earned praise from Glide Magazine, Americana Highways, and No Depression, which called it “one of 2021’s early benchmarks for Americana album of the year.”
Her latest LP, Hardly Matters, again produced by Rodriguez, leans further into nineties alternative, new wave, and indie rock — drawing comparisons to Liz Phair, Blondie, and Courtney Barnett.
“Beth Lee has one of those voices that one never tires of, a mix of charm, sensuality, and defiance, belting out her original hook-laden songs.” — Glide Magazine
“This is bracingly smart music… When Beth needs to rock out with themes of anxiety & worn-out situations — she adds enough hope to clothe a naked heart.” — Americana Highways
